Date #2: Thrifty’s Ice Cream Shop
Yum, Ice Cream!! And none other than Thrifty’s Ice Cream Shop too hehe!
Now, this was a fun date because it was a complete surprise for The Shadow!
Why Did I Choose Thrifty’s Ice Cream Shop?
As a kid, this was the Shadow’s favorite ice cream shop.
He has a lot of memories here so I thought it would be a nice surprise!
And yes, he was very surprised, yay! 😃
He actually thought the place had closed down as it was quite some time ago that he had been. While it is tucked away in a corner of a shopping center, the ice cream shop is definitely still open.
Where Is It Located?
Thrifty’s is located within the Global Plaza West shopping center at 3655 S Durango Dr #19, Las Vegas, NV 89147.
The major cross streets are West Spring Mountain Road and Durango.
While there are many others located in Las Vegas, this is the particular location we visited.
What Time Is The Shop Open?
At the time of this post, this location is open from 10 am to 10 pm. They did mention however that during the fall their hours could change so it’s best to arrive prior to 9 pm when possible.
Also, excluding some holidays, this location is open 7 days a week.
What Type Of Ice Cream Did We Eat At Thrifty’s Ice Cream Shop?
The Shadow had his favorite Rocky Road! I was really happy that they had that flavor. 🍦
I was also very happy that they had a sugar free option! There was only one but it was good! It was chocolate chip with peanut butter chunks in it, yum! 🍫🥜
What Was The Cost Of The Ice Cream Date?
The Shadow got one scoop in a cone and I got a small bowl. For both, our total was under $6.50.
Not bad! We think that’s super reasonable and it was really good too 😊
I’m not sure if you can see all the pricing in the photo below but here’s a list of all the flavors they have as well.
Looks like you can turn any milkshake into a malt too which is pretty cool if you like malts.

I was really shocked to see that Thrifty’s Ice Cream has been going strong for 79 years now! 😱
Honestly, there are not many things around nowadays that date back that far so it’s definitely refreshing to see something this old still around.
Our Review Of Thrifty’s Ice Cream Shop
The Sunshine: All in all, I really liked this shop because it was very quiet and peaceful. I also was very excited to surprise The Shadow which always makes me happy when he’s happy.
Not only was the ice cream affordable, but it was tasty and having the sugar free option made it worthwhile too.
Even though I enjoyed the drive and quality time with The Shadow, I would explore some other Thrifty’s that might be closer to home next time.
The Shadow: Over the course of our many years together I have mentioned the memories I have of enjoying Thrifty Ice Cream with my father when I was young. As a surprise my sweet sunshine happened across a Thrifty Ice Cream still operating in the Vegas Valley and surprised me with a visit to it.
There was a large part of nostalgia involved in the enjoyment for sure, but they still offered a lot of the classic flavors (rocky road is still the best!) as well as a few new ones to satisfy different dietary requirements. The place was clean, the price was reasonable.
The only distinct difference between the previous visits with my father as a young boy and the new one was the attendant spent all their time on their cell phone after taking our order. I cannot hold it against them though, they were attentive and served us well in our brief encounter and we were the only customers in at the time.
If you have fond memories of a similar experience this is definitely a stop to add on your travels around the Valley.
In Conclusion…..
Any time that The Shadow and I can spend out is a great time in my book but the quiet shop and the memories that it brought back for him were just the best!
We would try other locations and we would recommend this as a great budget-friendly date ❤️
